NutriHydro and Rotaract Club’s Joint Venture: Educating Young Minds in Basic Hydroponics

The Rotaract Club of Quirino Manila Central recently partnered with NutriHydro Fertilizer Manufacturing to host a Hydroponics Planting seminar and workshop on April 11 at Manila High School. The gathered participants were from Manila High School, Jose P. Laurel High School, President Corazon Aquino High School, and Polytechnic University of the Philippines Balikhaan. The objective of this joint effort was to enhance the knowledge of students and faculties on modern agricultural techniques.

The event invited Angela Velasco, a Licensed Agriculturist and Horticulturist from NutriHydro. Angela presented an engaging talk on sustainable agriculture to an enthusiastic audience in the school auditorium. She began her presentation by providing a concise and clear explanation of hydroponics, which involves growing plants without soil and instead using mineral nutrient solutions. She emphasized the significance of hydroponic systems in urban areas where space is limited and traditional farming is not viable. 

In her presentation, she explored the fundamental principles of hydroponics, such as the Kratky method, deep water culture, and nutrient film technique. In addition to that, she also discussed growth management including harvest and post-harvest procedures.

During the engaging workshop, Angela Velasco captivated the audience with a live demonstration of a basic Kratky hydroponics starter kit, a simple yet effective method ideal for beginners. She meticulously showed the assembly process, starting with a basic container (styro box), styro cups, cocopeat, seeds, and NutriHydro Nutrient Solution A and B. Her clear, step-by-step explanation helped expound the process, making it accessible for students and faculties alike. 

The demonstration not only illustrated the practical setup of a hydroponic system but also emphasized its efficiency and sustainability, sparking interest among students to explore hydroponics as a viable option for urban gardening.

At the end of the event, Angela Velasco participated in a Q&A session where she answered several insightful questions from the students. The Rotaract Club of Quirino Manila Central, who are known for their commitment to community service and educational initiatives, expressed their gratitude towards Velasco for her inspirational talk and the practical knowledge she shared.
