If your pH is outside the optimal range, you’ll need to adjust it. To raise pH, you add a base, typically in the form of potassium hydroxide or potassium carbonate. To lower pH, you add an acid, often phosphoric, nitric, or sulfuric acid. Be careful when handling these chemicals, as they are caustic and can cause harm.

Add these solutions sparingly, then stir the nutrient solution and measure the pH again. Keep repeating this process until the pH is in the ideal range.

  5. Monitoring Plant Health: Regularly monitor your lettuce for signs of stress, which could be an indication that your pH is off. Yellowing leaves, slow growth, and poor yield are common signs of pH-related issues.
