Protocol for Growing Lettuce in a Hydroponic System

Phase 1: Seed Germination 0-5 days

  • Preparation: Sanitize the germination tray, bottom feeding tray and sterilize the cocopeat.
  • Medium: Fill the germination tray with cocopeat as the growing medium.
  • Planting: Sow lettuce seeds in the cocopeat.
  • pH Adjustment: Use NutriHydro’s pH Down Seedling Starter to adjust the water pH to 5.8
  • Incubation: Cover the tray and place it in a warm, dark location for 0-5 days.

Phase 2: Seedling 5-20 days

  • Transplant: Transfer germinated seeds to styro cups filled with cocopeat.
  • Nutrition: Apply NutriHydro’s Micro/Macro Nutrient Blends. From 6-12 days use TDS to measure a Half Strength 400ppm. Then 13-60 days Full Strength 600-850 ppm.
  • pH Adjustment: Continue using pH Down Seedling Starter for optimal nutrient uptake.

Phase 3: Vegetative Growth 20-40 days

  • System Transfer: Place styro cups in the styro box hydroponic system.
  • Nutrition: Applying NutriHydro’s Nutrient Solution specifically formulated for lettuce. Full Strength 600-850 ppm.
  • pH Adjustment: Switch to NutriHydro’s pH Down Nitrogen Base to maintain pH at 6.0
  • Bio CalMag: Foliar application of Bio CalMag once a week to prevent Tip Burn, calcium, and  magnesium deficiencies.

Phase 4: Pre-Harvest

  • Observation: Monitor for signs of nutrient deficiency or tip burn.
  • Adjustment: Utilize Bio CalMag and pH Down Trio for final adjustments to nutrient levels and pH.
  • Nutrition: Continue using Nutrient Solution for lettuce.

Phase 5: Harvest

  • Assessment: Ensure lettuce has crisp, vibrant leaves.
  • Harvest: Gently cut the lettuce at the base.

Notes

  • Ensure to measure nutrient levels using a measuring cup for accurate dosages.
  • Regularly check pH and nutrient concentration. Use pH Down Trio and Nutrient Solution to make necessary adjustments.
